The word “Fabrication” in jewelry making can be interchanged with the word “construction”. When I use this term I mean that various different parts are being soldered together to make the item at hand. Typically this would be taking sheet and wire and sawing out something and then soldering another part to it. Regardless of the metal I was using if I am joining different parts together I am fabricating something. Various fabrication skills are often required in order to just do basic techniques. Such as sawing a design out of a sheet of metal, or soldering together the ends of a bezel or ring shank. It’s unusual if some basic skill in fabrication isn’t used in virtually every piece of jewelry. Of course filing, drilling or texturing in the metal could come into play. It just depends on the outcome you may be looking for.
